We’re Proud to be 100% Solar!

We took the leap and we have gone solar! We are, in fact, the first major private sector firm in Guyana, South America to go 100% solar! In 2016, we at Nand Persaud International Communications (NPIC) began the installation of solar panels on the roof at our main branch in Tain, Corentyne, Berbice. In January, 2017 we flipped the switch, activating our new system.
The 12,000 square feet of panels produces roughly 1000 kilowatts of power on a daily basis. That’s enough power to offset all of our activities here at the call centre. In fact, we consume approximately 70% of the power we produce.
Solar panels generate power through a series of small photovoltaic cells that convert the energy from sunlight into useable currents of electricity. Today, NPIC’s daily operations use 100% solar powered electrical energy driving the computers, servers, telephones, air conditioning unit, fans, everything.
Going solar is a great way to reduce environmental impact, and at NPIC, we are always striving to find ways to help others do the same which is why we are currently providing the remaining 30% goes to the national electricity company, Guyana Power and Light (GPL) free of charge.
Having the opportunity to make this big leap in our own energy efficiency gives us enormous pride, and we want to use our experience as a resource for others as they shift to cleaner sources of energy.
It is very important to NPIC that we not only advocate for businesses to reduce their environmental footprint, but also demonstrate the use of those best-practices ourselves. Our decision to go 100% solar is testament to our commitment to operating more sustainably.
When you next visit the branch or pass by, look up!
